“I got Lori Harvey on my wish list.” I rapped alongside Meek Mill’s “Going Bad” inside the shower before my music cut off mid-verse. A second later, my phone began to ring.

“Yeah.” I answered for Cena while continuing to wash my body.

“You home? We need to talk.”

“I’m here. Come through.”

“I’m on my way,” she informed me before ending the call.

Twenty minutes later, the elevators to my penthouse opened, and Cena stepped inside with a frazzled look on her face. I could tell by the sound of her voice over the phone that shit had gone left, so I had a bottle of liquor sitting on the counter for myself and a bottle of ice water for her since I knew she couldn’t drink.

“How’d the meeting go?” I asked her. She cut her eyes at me as if to ask how you think it went? “That bad, huh?” I followed up.

She scoffed as her heels clicked across my floor. “Yeah. It was that bad.”

“Exactly how bad are we talkin’?”

“Let’s just say I wish I could be the one with the liquor instead of this water,” she said before swiping the bottle off the counter.

“Tell me what happened,” I insisted before taking a sip of my drink.

Frustration sat lightly on her face. “Canaan was the asshole he always is. He blew up and stormed out once he found out my father—” She paused.

“Your father what?”

She released a drawn-out exhale. “His debts are more… substantial than we thought. He had a fifteen-million-dollar insurance policy, and after paying off all of his debts and back taxes, there was a little over a million left to split between my brother and me.”

“So, what’s the problem? At least y’all get a little somethin’.”

“The problem is, only my father’s legal debts were paid. This has nothing to do with anything he owes to the families in The Order for his gambling. My father was bad with money.”

“So what are you going to do?”

She scoffed. “You mean besides watch Canaan drown? At this point, I’m starting to think he did me a favor.”

“You still plan to fight him for it?”

“I do, but I’m waiting to see how this all plays out right now. When we first got back here, I felt rushed, like I needed all the chips to fall together right away, but now I’m playing for the long term,” she assured me.

I nodded. “Okay.”

“In other news, I accused him of killing our father,” she announced while huffing out a humored breath.

My eyebrows jogged up my forehead. “What did he say?”

“Um, let’s see. He told me I was delusional. Oh, and he said he had an alibi.”

“What was it?”

“He didn’t say.”

“I remember I saw him leaving my father’s house after I left you at the hospital.”

“Yeah, I know.”

“I mean, I’ll follow your lead with all this when it comes to your brother, but I am curious to know why it seems like my father is helping Canaan so much.”

“Are you going to ask him?” she quizzed.

“Hell yeah,” I told her while grabbing my phone.
